Course of thyroid ultrasound examination
Course of the study Thyroid ultrasound
Thyroid ultrasound is a process that uses sound waves to obtain images of the organ. During the examination, the patient lies on his or her back with the head slightly elevated, and the doctor applies a special gel to the neck to allow better contact between the ultrasound head and the skin. The head is then moved over the surface of the neck, and the resulting images are displayed on a monitor.
One of the key advantages of thyroid ultrasound is its safety. This method does not use ionizing radiation, which means that it does not carry the risks associated with radiation exposure. As a result, this examination can be performed even in pregnant women. This examination is painless and non-invasive, usually takes a few minutes and requires no special preparation on the part of the patient.
Before undergoing a thyroid ultrasound, the patient should remove jewelry and clothing from the neck that could interfere with the test. This is the only requirement for preparation for this procedure.
Upon completion of the examination, the doctor performing the test provides the patient with the result in the form of ultrasound images along with a description. Interpretation of these results is the responsibility of the doctor, who can assess the condition of the thyroid gland and any pathologies.
