Audiology
Who is the audiologist and what does it do?
An audiologist is a specialist who diagnoses and treats hearing disorders in patients of all ages. The role of the audiologist is to conduct diagnostic tests and propose the optimal method of treatment, rehabilitation or hearing prosthesis.
Children of nursery and preschool age are particularly prone to ear and upper respiratory tract infections (exudative otitis media, obstruction of the ear trumpets, hypertrophy of the pharyngeal tonsil, hypertrophy of the palatine tonsils) resulting in temporary deterioration of hearing. Therefore, whenever a parent notices a child’s inferior responses to auditory stimuli and verbal commands, delayed speech acquisition, word twisting, slurred, poor speech, loud talking….etc. should consult an audiologist.
In school-age children, hearing problems can manifest themselves in problems with concentrating in class and learning, especially foreign languages. In such a case, it is worthwhile for the child to consult an audiologist Warsaw.
At any age, we consult with an audiologist in Warsaw
- hearing deterioration
- Hearing hypersensitivity (sounds that others do not find disturbing are considered unpleasant)
- Tinnitus (hearing crackling, squeaking, buzzing, murmuring in the ears)
- sensation of blocking and clogging of ears
If hearing loss has been diagnosed and wearing hearing aids has been recommended, consultation with an audiologist is required if there is no significant benefit from hearing aids.
Conditions requiring urgent consultation with an audiologist
- sudden deterioration of hearing unilaterally, or bilaterally
- sudden appearance of a noise, crackling, squeaking heard in one or both ears
- sudden deterioration of hearing after exposure to noise (known as acoustic trauma)
