Nose
surgery to remove polyps from the nose or sinuses
Polypectomy endoscopic
Polyps are pathological mucosal growths that fill the sinuses and nasal cavities. They are not neoplastic growths, but their presence leads to the destruction of nasal structures. The presence of polyps indicates the severity of the lesions. Plastic surgery of the nose in this case involves removing polyps and opening the mouths of blocked sinuses. Using endoscopic techniques, the lesions can be thoroughly removed, giving a good chance of a permanent cure. Most often, nasal correction is performed through the nasal orifices, but sometimes it is necessary to additionally puncture or incise the skin directly above the sinus in the medial brow.
Nasal septum correction
Septoplasty (septum - septum)
The main symptom of a crooked septum is difficulty breathing properly through the nose. Unilateral or bilateral nasal congestion in such cases often causes sleep disturbances, recurrent sinusitis, pharyngitis and middle ear infections. Impaired breathing through the nose means that the inhaled air is not sufficiently purified, heated and humidified. The consequence is breathing through the mouth, resulting in frequent upper respiratory tract infections.
Septoplasty is a correction of the nose that involves “correcting” the crooked part of the septum (cartilage and/or bone), straightening it in a special press and reinserting it into the nose (we use a reconstruction technique – as opposed to resection techniques = removal). This uses optical equipment, which makes the surgical field more visible.
Closure of nasal septal perforation
Nasal septum perforation is a defect in the septum separating the nostrils, which may cause breathing problems, dry nose, recurrent infections or a characteristic whistling sound when breathing. Perforation of the nasal septum may result from various factors, such as injuries, medical interventions, cancer, as well as inflammatory, infectious, degenerative and autoimmune diseases. Cocaine abuse may also be one of the causes. Perforations of the nasal septum do not have the ability to close on their own – on the contrary, they may enlarge over time. There is no natural tissue regeneration. In most patients, perforations do not cause any symptoms, especially when they are located in the deeper, bony part of the septum. However, perforations in the anterior cartilaginous section often lead to troublesome symptoms. In case of symptomatic perforations, such as chronic rhinitis or bleeding, surgical treatment is usually used. The procedure to close the perforation of the nasal septum is performed using mucosa, cartilage or modern implants grafts, which restores the proper function of the nose and improves the patient’s quality of life.
Conchoplasty (concha - clamshell)
It is a correction of the nose for changes in the nasal auricles. Most often, the middle auricle is operated on. Its disturbed structure (aeration, abnormal curvature) causes it to occupy too large a part of the nasal cavity, blocking breathing and impeding the flow of secretions from the sinuses.
nose plastics
Rhinoplasty/ septorhinoplasty (rhino - nose)
It is a plastic surgery of the nose that allows correction of its curved line. A crooked external nose is not only a cause of complexes, but also impairs breathing. The best results are obtained with simultaneous surgery of the septum and plasty of the external nose (known as septorhinoplasty). This procedure can be performed from the age of 16.
The septorhinoplasty procedure takes 2.5- 3 hours. Right after the procedure, blood flowing under the eyes causes swelling and bruising. The nose is covered with a bandage that secures the shape of the new nose. After a week, the bracing is removed. For about 6 weeks, the skin of the nose remains sensitive and delicate, so it is recommended to protect it from harmful atmospheric phenomena. Scar healing takes from 6 months to a year.
