- Irritation, swelling of neck muscles and restriction of mobility
- Damage to the great auricular nerve and sensory disturbances in the lower auricle

- Rare: need for resection of the internal jugular vein (when it is in adhesions with the cyst)
- Very rare: injury to the lower pole of the parotid gland and worse wound healing
Rare, but much more serious
- Very rarely, bleeding after the procedure can cause a growing hematoma and swelling in the larynx, even exceptionally may require an emergency tracheotomy (breathing hole in the middle of the neck)
