Synevo lab tips
Blood test how to prepare?
- The material for the blood test should be taken on an empty stomach, that is, with an 8 - 12 hour break since the last meal. The recommendation applies to all tests, since changes induced by the ingestion of a meal are difficult to predict, and the values obtained are interpreted against reference values established under standard conditions.
- On the day before the blood test, avoid heavy and fatty meals and alcohol consumption.
- On the day of the test - immediately before the blood test it is allowed to drink a small amount of water. It is recommended to take blood in the morning. Immediately before the collection, a 15-minute rest is advisable.
- Always inform the blood collection staff of any medications, supplements, herbal preparations you are taking - this will be noted during registration.
Urine collection How to prepare?
The General Urine Examination can be performed at any time of the day but the recommended material is the first morning portion, i.e. urine passed after an overnight 8-hour rest or, if that is not possible, at least 4 hours after the previous urination.
- Adherence to the usual diet and fluid intake
- avoiding excessive physical exertion
- Maintain sexual abstinence in the day before the study
- Thoroughly wash the urethral outlet area with warm water without cleansers or disinfectants and dry with a disposable towel
- It is not recommended to perform the test between 2 days before and 2 days after menstruation
It is very important that the urine for the test comes from the so-called “middle stream”. To do this, after urinating a small amount of urine into the toilet, without interruption, substitute a container and urinate 50 – 100 ml of urine into it, then set the container aside and urinate the remaining urine into the toilet. Do not overflow urine from the potty, pool, etc. The container with the collected urine sample should be tightly closed, labeled with your name and surname and brought to the collection center as soon as possible.
Collection of urine culture material in adults:
- For the test, the first morning urine should be collected (after an overnight 8-hour rest) or, if this is not possible, at least 4 hours after the previous urination.
- It is very important that the urine for testing comes from the so-called "middle stream".
-
Before collecting urine, first wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, wipe them in a disposable towel; then thoroughly wash the area around the urethral outlet with soap and water:
Women: the vulva area from the front towards the anus,
Men: the glans after pushing back the foreskin. - Urine should be passed into a sterile container. Do not touch the inside walls of the container.
- The first small portion of urine should be passed to the toilet to flush the urethra of bacteria and epithelia, then fill the container with urine to about half (a minimum of a few ml).
- Avoid passing the last stream of urine for the test, as it flows out under low pressure and washes the perineal skin flushing germs from it.
- The urine container should be sealed tightly and brought to the laboratory as soon as possible.
Collection of urine culture material from infants or young children:
- Undress the child from the waist down in a warm room
-
Wash the urethral outlet area thoroughly:
Girls: vulva area from the front towards the anus,
Boys: glans after pushing back the foreskin - Wipe using disposable towels
- Lift the infant up and massage the back muscles along the spine backward. At the onset of urination, substitute the prepared sterile container, passing the first portion of urine, take about 1 - 5 ml
Urine for culture should not be collected into bags taped to the skin, because of the high risk of contamination of the urine sample with microorganisms from the urethra and perineal area and a false-positive result.
