Complications after surgery throat and larynx
Any extensive surgical procedure can be followed by serious general complications: Pneumonia, venous congestion and thrombosis, stroke, systemic infection, myocardial infarction, respiratory failure and death.

Any surgical procedure (operation) may involve:
- With sequelae that are the result of disease or treatment ( can occur at any stage of diagnosis and treatment)
- with complications that, although not the result of an error, are adverse events (they occur with varying frequency).

consequences or complications after adenotomy
Frequent but harmless
- Early bleeding from the nose and throat (on day 1) requiring nasal or nasopharyngeal tamponade (posterior tamponade) or reoperation (readenotomy)
- Late bleeding ( mostly by day 7)
- Obstructed nose due to tissue swelling (temporarily)
- Emphysema on the neck and face
- Injury to the trumpet shaft
- Otitis media
- Change in tone of voice, usually of a transitory nature
- Re-growth of the tonsil may occur
Rare, much more serious
- Prevertebral fascia injury with neck stiffness and spinal irritation
- Precipitation of food, especially liquids into the nose
- Open Nose
- Nasal obstruction due to adhesions in the nasopharynx

Consequences or complications After surgery to remove the palatine tonsils
Frequent but harmless
- Swelling of the uvula, sore throat, earache
- Bleeding from the throat - early ( on day 1)
- Late bleeding (on consecutive days, mainly up to day 7)
- Emphysema on the neck
- Change in tone of voice, nasality
- Enlargement and pain in the neck lymph nodes in the first few days after surgery
- Distant sequelae such as dry throat, burning, more frequent occurrence of hoarseness
Rare, much more serious
- severe bleeding requiring suturing of the tonsillar niches and putting the patient to sleep and stamping the lower pharynx, abscess within the throat

Consequences or complications after UPPP treatment
Frequent but harmless
- Swelling, sore throat, earache
- Bleeding from the throat - early ( on the 1st day)
- Late bleeding (on consecutive days, mainly up to day 7)
- Emphysema on the neck
- Change in tone of voice, nasality
- Enlargement and pain in the neck lymph nodes in the first few days after surgery
- Taste and sensory disturbances in the throat
- Swallowing disorders persisting2- 3 weeks
- Distant sequelae such as dry throat, burning, more frequent occurrence of hoarseness
Rare, much more serious
- Severe bleeding requiring suturing of the tonsillar niches or putting the patient to sleep and stamping the lower pharynx
